Dorset Energized, a group of renewable energy enthusiasts who met at a local Community Sustainable Energy Working Group, approached us to help them create an innovative and engaging website. The site needed to help local people connect with renewable energy and encourage them to take the next step - from simply switching energy suppliers or investing in wood fuelled heating, to investing in an electric car or becoming a home energy generator.
Our concept for the website was to be visual, colourful and aspirational to stand out from other energy websites that tend to me more technical or corporate. We decided that each page of the website should be fully illustrated to represent the different renewable technologies and how they could fit into everyday life but in an attractive way.
The website was built by our Developers using Wordpress as an easy-to-use Content Management System. After initially launching a blog with multiple authors to start building an online presence, we added custom coding to integrate our fully bespoke design theme.
The website is an eye-catching online resource that provides detailed and accessible information for home users, with energy news and views posted by a growing number of blog authors. We hope it is a go-to resource for people in Dorset and the UK who want to invest in renewable energy. Many people tell us that they regularly visit the site to keep up with green energy news and for advice, and we continue to help run special offers and competitions.
The Dorset Energized site has now expanded to be UK wide under the new name of Lets Get Energized, although Dorset Energized continue as a local arm attending local events. We continue to help with blogging and social media and have created various print work for events. We are currently discussing options for applying for funding to now redesign and develop the site to make it fully responsive.
