EAC FirstStop

The Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC) is a leading UK wide charity based in London. Their FirstStop website is aimed specifically at professionals within the elderly housing and care advice sector.

The Challenge

Our Associate Web Developers AccuWeb approached us to once again collaborate with them on an EAC website. They needed to move FirstStop from under their HousingCare website and combine it with their new blog content, so that FirstStop could become more obviously aimed at I&A (Information and Advice) professionals. The new website needed to show FirstStop as "thought leaders" within their field, to demonstrate best practice through knowledge sharing, and show how they work with local partners and national sponsors to deliver their innovative services.

Our Approach

User Experience (UX) work was completed to identify the key users, their priorities, their likely journeys through the site, and to plan each page's content positioning and calls to action. Designs were created based on wireframes for the site's key pages, and developed to make sure there was a clear entry point for their main users, and so that any members of the public who found the website would essentially be redirected to EAC's other appropriate websites (such as the "HOOP" Housing Options for Older People - an online tool we have previously created to help older people make informed choices about whether to move home or not).

For the website build we decided to adapt a Wordpress off-the-shelf template for the base coding in order to save considerable time and development costs, so that we could focus on the front-end artwork by implementing a fully bespoke home page design, as well as bespoke projects pages, and then more simply style up selected page elements in order to keep fully on-brand.

The Results

The new website is fully responsive to work from desktop to mobile devices, and has a clean, bold, modern and boxy layout. The tone is more straightforward and aimed clearly at professionals. We also updated the logo colours to be fresher and more motivational, so we could integrate the new colours and the bubbles into the site to add some visual interest and create an engaging information resource. The site is also focused more on projects to show the work in action and clearly demonstrate the impact of the work.
